2 dead in Greeley Co. crash; KHP reports 16 total crashes on Thursday

Two men from Tribune died Thursday afternoon in a rollover accident.

 

According to Kansas Highway Patrol reports, 25-year-old Christopher Jones was driving his truck southbound on Road 17 when he went off the roadway. His truck rotated 45 degrees and struck a power poll on the drivers side rear door, causing the vehicle to roll over 2 1/4 times before coming to a rest on the passenger side in a ditch.

 

Jones was transported to St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City where he died.

 

Passenger Matthew Bender, 27, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Wichita where he passed away.

 

The third passenger in the truck, 31-year-old Christy Hopkins, sustained injuries and was transported to Greeley County Hospital.

 

In a separate incident, 18-year-old Ariana Jacquez of New Mexico lost control of her truck on eastbound I-70 five miles outside of WaKeeney. She was taken to Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital for injuries.

 

In addition, 14 other crashes were reported from Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning.
